Bob Barker Dies at 99
,Bob Barker, the longtime host of The Price is Right and animal rights activist, has died at age 99.
“It is with profound sadness that we announce that the World’s Greatest MC who ever lived, Bob Barker has left us,” publicist Roger Neal said in a statement Saturday. No cause was given.
Bob Barker was a television icon and inspiration to many. In 1972, he became host of the The Price is Right, which enters its 52nd season this fall. He retired from the show in 2007, after more than 50 years in the television industry. He became a legend during his tenure on The Price is Right and helped make the show the longest running game show in television history. Barker was a huge animal rights activist, and he signed off every episode with his signature tagline "Help control the pet population; have your pets spayed or neutered. Goodbye everybody."
Barker won 19 Emmy Awards, had the former studio home of The Price is Right named after him, and even had a building named after him from PETA, an animal rights activist group who he made significant contributions for. There's not a lot that needs to be said about Bob Barker. He was in the home's of America Television for 50 years.
While Barker was no longer host at the time, I got a chance to attend a taping of The Price is Right many years ago. It was one of the best experiences of my life, and is something I highly recommend
