ABC adds new Jeopardy spinoff, Renews A Few Summer Games
The TCA (Television Critics Association) Winter Press Tour is occurring over the next few weeks. This is a time when we typically get some information about upcoming shows, and usually some early renewals are handed out. Wednesday was ABC's turn and sure enough, we got some early information about ABC's summer plans.
The biggest news of the day is that ABC has greenlight yet another Jeopardy spinoff called Jeopardy! Masters. This tournament is similar to the Tournament of Champions and will feature six high-ranked current Jeopardy! contestants. The six contestants for the first ever event are: Matt Amodio, Sam Buttrey, Andrew He, James Holzhauer, Mattea Roach, and Amy Schneider. Ken Jennings will host the tournament which is slated to air this spring according to Rob Mills, ABC's unscripted chief
It seems like ABC is really diving into these Jeopardy! primetime specials, as this is now the 4 such spinoff, with the current season of Celebrity Jeopardy! finishing up its run on Thursdays, Not much else is known about this tournament, but I am sure we will find out more quickly since this is on the fast track.THIS IS IT!! The Super Bowl of Jeopardy! Is coming to ABC this spring!! https://t.co/J4sN5CfvTF

ABC also announced the renewals of Celebrity Family Feud (Season 9), Press Your Luck (Season 5), and Claim to Fame (Season 2). The first two don't come as any surprise as both are ABC's higher rated game shows. Claim to Fame's ratings weren't as good but ABC clearly liked it enough to give it another season.
What does this mean for ABC's remaining slate of summer games? Well, right now it doesn't mean anything. There will certainly be more renewals and most of the time, they aren't all announced at once. Both Holey Moley and Generation Gap have begun casting for new seasons (with Holey Moley set to tape in Australia later this spring) and To Tell the Truth and Pyramid both have a full seasons' of episodes taped and ready. So all of those shows should be expected back,
As for the remainder of the shows, The Final Straw seems like the only show that won't be back. Celebrity Wheel will absolutely be back. Celebrity Jeopardy likely will as well (unless they do a strange rotation with the other spinoffs), and The Chase is currently airing but producers have already begun reaching out to former trivia contestants.
We will have much more as we get closer to summer and more news comes out so stay tuned!
