"Ellen's Game of Games" Cancelled at NBC

It what is not really a surprising move, NBC has decided to cancelled Ellen's Game of Games after four seasons. With all the controversary surrounding Ellen, her daytime talk show ending after the upcoming season, and the ratings crash for Game of Games, it seemed unlikely that NBC was going to commission another season.

Game of Games is based on games from her daytime talk show, and included her famous "Know or Go" and the bonus game of "Hot Hands", where you can win up to $100,000. The show was a ratings success when it first premiered as a holiday special in 2017. The series premiere gathered a 1.66 demo rating and over 7 million viewers. The show climbed to as a high as a 2.4 and nearly 9 million viewer during it's initial eight episode run. It was no surprise that NBC quickly ordered more.

The show continued to have success, still averaging over a 1.0 demo in the third season in 2020. However, the show declined quite a bit in 2021. The show did fine initially and was "on par" with most other unscripted game shows, but then took a nose dive when NBC moved it to Sundays for the back-half of the season. The now series finale on May 23, 2021 garnered just a 0.24 in the demo with 1.6 million viewers, All in all, Season 4 was down 51% in the demo rating and 46% in viewership.

The show ended with 58 episodes over the course of 4 seasons.
