HBO Max Revives Tattletales

Another day, another game show revival. HBO Max has ordered a revival of Fremantle's Tattletales. Tattletales ran in CBS daytime through most of the 70s and early 80s. The show pits three couples against each other, taking turns answering questions about each other. Sounds similar to Newlywed Game right?

The HBO Max version will be hosted by Ayesha and Stephen Curry and will feature celebrity couples. The revival promises some twists, including some physical challenges in addition to just questions. Undoubtedly, you can expect this version to be raunchier and more suitable to an adult crowd given that it's going to a streaming platform. The press release mentions "uncensored relationship trivia and games" so no doubt this will have a very feel. It will still feature three couples.

I've seen some episodes of the show on Buzzr and was never a fan, but this is actually one game show that could work really well with celebrities, since that seems to be the thing nowadays. This is also a huge step for the potential to see studio based game show originals on streaming networks. So far, most of the streamers have not really dipped into the game show genre. Netflix debuted Awake: The Million Dollar Game a few years ago but it only lasted one season and never really caught on.

A few other more reality/competition type game shows have been ordered by streamers but Awake was the first (and up to this point) only studio based game show. I am not sure if traditional game shows will ever have a huge market on streaming networks, since most of them aren't really "binge-worthy", but this one could work well for HBO Max.

Warner Brothers still has the revival of Wipeout (which airs April 1st on TBS) and US version of The Cube up and coming. It still remains to be seen if either of those shows will stream on HBO Max after they air on their cable channel. WB doesn't own either of the shows, so not sure how the streaming rights will be handled. I am sure Wipeout will at least be available on the TBS website.

No airdate or episode count was announced, but I suspect this will be for either late 2021 or early 2022. More information to come.
