The Weekly Wrap
Introducing a new series called The Weekly Wrap. The goal of this series is to provide some information on game shows that are too small for a main article post. It wraps up little tidbits from the week in the game show genre. So here's some of the news:
- NBC's Small Fortune has apparently just wrapped up production. The show is expected on NBCs midseason schedule which should be announced any day now.
- Name That Tune begins filming Friday 11/20 in Australia. US performer Jane Krakowski hosts and Randy Jackson serves as the musical director. Still no network tied to this show, but taping goes til December 4th, which is typically lengthy for game shows. It is produced by Eureka productions, the same team behind Holey Moley. Update: FOX has picked up the revival of Name That Tune. More details here.
- Speaking of Holey Moley, they are now casting for a third season. While this doesn't guarantee a new season, it seems very likely at this point and even ABC's unscripted chief said it was hard to imagine Summer 2021 without it.
- WarnerMedia released their fall and winter schedules for their slew on cable networks (TBS, TNT) and The Cube (which recently wrapped production) was noticeably missing. Speculation is they may be holding it for post March Madness. However, TBS will be premiering the third season of The Misery Index on Tuesday January 26th at 10:30/9:30c.
- Mattel continues to dive in the television industry as is once again trying to get their popular card game UNO adapted to a television game show. Propagate Content and Let's Make a Deal showrunner John Quinn are behind it. No word on network but the series is to turn the card game into a competition of four teams trying to become the Uno champion. It will also feature audience participation, physical challenges and trivia. The card game is celebrating it's 50th anniversary next year so I expect they'd want this picked up by then, but it seems they also want an audience. This will certainly be one to watch.
- Let's Make a Deal and The Price is Right debuted new seasons this week.
- GSN's Master Minds kicks off its new season on December 7th.
- FOX has renewed 25 Words of Less for two additional seasons.
