Game Show Roundup
A lot has gone on in the game show industry so here is the latest on tapings and the status of many shows. As previous stated, it appears that the game show/unscripted genre will have the easiest time getting back into production, and unless otherwise noted, all shows will be taping without an audience and will be have social distancing/set adjustments.
As previously stated, Card Sharks was the first show to go into production. It did so in early July and has since wrapped up prodution. No word has been given by ABC on when the show will air. We heard some rumors that the show was moving to a seven card format for the main round instead of ten, but no other news on potential changes for Season 2. It is unknown how many episodes were taped.
Deadline reports that the revival of Supermarket Sweep is now in production and has begun taping as of Friday. The show is slated to air this fall on Sundays at 8/7c. No exact airdate as been given but ABC has begun running promos saying "Coming Soon to Sundays This Fall" so we assume that it will be keeping its schedule Sunday night timeslot.
Deadline also reported and it was confirmed by multiple sources that both of Sony's game shows Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune are heading back into production. Jeopardy resumed taping this week (five episodes a day, two days a weel) with Wheel scheduled to go next week on their respective new seasons. Wheel is also airing brand new episodes this week. These were taped back in February.
Randy West, also provided some additional information on his Facebook page, and he's a must follow for all game show related news. He tells us the following:
Pyramid is back in studio and ready to begin taping later this month (around August 21st). NBC's reboot of The Weakest Link is also set to go and should begin taping it's thirteen episodes later this month as well.
As previously reported, Family Feud goes back into production this month from its new home in Atlanta.
He also mentioned that pre-production finished on Season 2 of Mental Samurai in April, but hasn't taped yet. No word yet on when that returns. And as expected, The Price is Right and Let's Make a Deal are still on hiatus and Fremantle and CBS figure out if it's possible to tape shows without audiences.
As you can see, that's a lot going on. Still no word yet on Millionaire, which had begun casting for it's Season 2, which is also scheduled for this fall on Sundays. The Chase is moving forward but no further updates at this time.
Much more info will be coming in the days ahead as networks begin to set premiere dates for these shows. We will have a lot more content and news coming in the week ahead so stay tuned.
*Programming note: ABC continues to air repeats of it's Sunday Fun and Games lineup for at least the next few weeks. The Thursday Fun and Games shows will continue with new episodes and finish their seasons. NBC's The Wall is also in repeats with about five episodes left. *
