Latest Updates on Game Show Industry

The game show industry continues to take off. It was already reported back in March that TBS was planning to revive the popular ABC game show, Wipeout, and now, the show has begun virtual casting for the new season. Not much info is known besides that it will include the signature Big Balls. While anyone can apply and physical strength isn't necessary (like American Ninja Warrior), it appears there will physical endurance challengers apart of the new season. ABC's current blend of Wipeout and mini golf, Holey Moley, currently tapes at the same spot that Wipeout did so not sure where this will tape.

Chad Mosher over on Twitter also tweeted about a revival of the US adapation of The Chase. GSN aired the show for four seasons and 51 episodes. Again, not much is known besides what Mosher tweeted. Casting feelers have gone out and the show will be for a "major network". Considering the amount of game shows that ABC and they have quiz show Millionaire back, it seems likely this could be for FOX. NBC just picked up a revival of The Weakest Link, so they now also have a quiz show as well. Randy West also talked about it and it sounds like it will be well promoted and the network is expecting it to be the next big game show.

Deadline is reporting about the Hollywood restart and mentions that New York is expected to move into Phase 4, which will allow film and TV productions to resume. This will be interesting to watch as The $100,000 Pyramid tapes in New York. We will see if they go back into production soon. No word yet. They also talked about several scripted shows that are set to go into production in August in LA so it appears that the recent closures of business has not affected the production of Card Sharks, but it's unknown as this time.

Finally, Lori Greiner of ABC's Shark Tank said the show was returned to production. She said "it's not the same as always" but that shooting has begun. This is another relatively easy show to get back into production as it doesn't have an audience and very few people on set. It's likely that they will space the sharks six feet apart, or could go down to just four Sharks, but they are back. Shark Tank pitches typically take between 60-90 minutes per pitch. No word of if there's a bit of a time limit so they can tape pitches a bit quicker.
